     New Zealand also nicknamed Kiwi by the country locals lies 4155 km south east of Australia. They have the perception of being apart of Australia because of the distance but actually are their own island country. New Zealand is split into two parts, North and South. Below New Zealand is two tectonic plates (Australian and Pacific) that are constantly rubbing against each other. That why they are considered to be apart of the Zealandia continent. They are populated of about 4.4 million people, and cover a land mass of 267,710 square kilometers, about 3% of United States. You can see the comparison in picture 2. Because New Zealand lies between two tectonic plates they have a lot of geological events. Due to this they have volcanoes, one active in North Island, hot springs, glaciers in the South, snowy mountains, vast plains, hillsides, fiords, and coastline sand beaches. Also the tectonic plates have created the Southern Alps which almost goes across the whole South Island. The Southern Alps extend to 300 miles long. Hence the location for many movies.
